Getting the hairstyle you want from a hairdresser
How to communicate with your hairstylist to achieve the perfect hairstyle. One Bloomsbury stylist tells you how.
There are many reasons that hairstyles go wrong, I think the main one would be communication. Although a bad attitude from a stylist and overlooking would be right behind that. I've been a stylist in central London for a long time and based in Bloomsbury for the past nineteen years. In my experience, things go right when the stylist and the client have clear expectations. I would never proceed if a client told me, “just do what you want”. That's a recipe for disaster because what I want may not be what they expect. So we sit down and chat beforehand; I'm going to show them pictures and do likewise. I'm going to find out their likes and dislikes.
Most importantly, I'll tell them what's realistically possible. I also check throughout the process that the client is happy with the length and the style. Here's a tip if a stylist advises you against a style listen, they probably did you the biggest favour ever.
