Hair tragedy, what to do when your hairstyle doesn't meet your expectations

Things don't always go according to plan, and if it's your hair, it can be devastating. After 46 years of cutting hair I have some advice for when things don't turn out there way you expected.

The first thing I would say is try to remain calm, don't try to remedy the problem yourself. You really can make a disaster turn out to be a catastrophe. For example your colour goes wrong and you put a colour over it. Before you know it you have green hair, don't feel bad you aren't trained. I'm going to say it again communication is the key, if your stylist isn't listening dump them. Some of my consultations take an hour but some only take 5 minutes. The key is do I understand the client and do they understand me. You will get sense of this and it's great when you both develop a good rapport. I can go on about communication for hours but that's not foxing your hair is it?

Bullet points to fixing your hair

  • Phone a stylist, give the one that caused the problem a chance to fix it
  • If they seem like they get what's making you unhappy with the style give them a chance. If not ask for a refund and look elsewhere.
  • Bring pictures
  • Make sure you are both clear on expected length
  • If colour get them to explain how the problem occurred, if they can't there's a good chance they can't fix it
  • If you have to look elsewhere read reviews.
